{celebrate}

Out with the old, and in with the new…it’s been a year that I’ve had my blog and like my fellow bloggers, I agree the time went quickly. I still can’t believe that Michaela dared us to do this but I am glad she did :) . While I didn’t actually blog everyday, I did complete my photo 366 challenge…and that is something I am really proud of. In the beginning I wasn’t sure if I could do it, but as time went on it became more of a quest. Some days were harder than others but I am glad I stuck it out because I learned many things along the way (not all photography related). I am still deciding if I want to do another 366, or the 52 challenge. I am leaning toward the 366 as it truly is a great way to document the year, moments which would normally just be forgotten about. Regardless of what photo challenge I take, I am hoping to be more diligent with my blog this year (any tips from you faithful daily bloggers? some days there just doesn’t seem to be time… (and no, I am not one of those early risers!)

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2009… with a special shout out to my faithful blogger friends…Our friendship goes way beyond the web and I feel so lucky to have such a great group of ladies in my life. I truly enjoy our friendship and look forward to our journey in ’09. Hope you all had a wonderful (and safe) celebration.

Or not….!!!! It’s been a long time since we’ve been bowling, probably about a year for the boys and even longer for me and boy did it show in our scores. OMG! But really, who cares, we had a good time and that’s all that counts. This was Syd’s first time bowling. She really liked it and keeps asking when we are going back!

I am ready..

help from daddy…

I have a to upload but we’re having family movie night tonight and everyone is waiting for me…so I better go.
BTW, I am the only one who is going to need a vacation from this winter vacation… all this running around is making me tired…lol and is costing a small fortune! When do they go back to school!!!!!

{moo}

Only in WI when you go to a Christmas light extravaganza you see this…

But seriously, we took the kids to this fantastic lights display, similar to that of the one at the Art Center (you Jersey girls know what I am talking about) only a little smaller, and a few less lights. The lights were nice but my favorite part of the drive through were all the small little buildings, they were pretty cute…. here are a few of them…
Bearville was probably my favorite section and I love the way this one processed

and one more incase your kids were wondering where the reindeer live…

At the end of the drive you could go inside and get hot cocoa and see some fun train displays. See, even those who don’t celebrate enjoy the lights!
(all these were taken while Shawn was driving (slowly) but driving nonetheless…and of course this throws out all comp rules.. shooting from the car is beyond limiting! lol)

{Last Night}

Last night was the 8th and final night of Hanukkah…so all the candles on the menorah were lit.
Andrew…

Max…

this pic shows all 3 menorahs that were lit last night (Matthew is away)…

I may have one more Hanukkah post so bear with me. I will also post about our great, WARM getaway…it was a blast and the rest of Sydney’s birthday. With the kids having no school we are staying busy so my computer time is limited. Hope you are all enjoying your winter breaks!

{Happy Birthday}

Christmas is a very special day for many of you, one that means family, traditions, presents and fun and I’ve enjoyed sharing all of it with you. Even though we don’t celebrate Christmas, Christmas is a very special day in our house too. A day that also means family, traditions, presents and fun.

Four years ago, early Christmas morning, while sleeping, my water broke… while I should’ve been excited I panicked at the idea of having a baby on Christmas, after all my due date was another 4 weeks away and my scheduled c/s was 2 1/2 weeks away. I called the Dr’s office to learn that my doctor was in FL, of course he was, he was Jewish, and don’t all Jews go to FL for Christmas…lol. The answering service told me a covering Dr. (not from my office) was on call at one of the area hospitals and I should go there. I hung up in tears…my baby was early, my doctor was away, the covering doctor is a doctor that I had heard not so good things about, and to top it off, he was at a hospital that I didn’t want to deliver at. What was I to do? I wasn’t having contractions so I thought, maybe Shawn was right and maybe I just peed…lol and I’ll go back to bed. Yeah right…, by 2:30 am, the contractions were there and there was no denying I was in labor. So after calling my parents to come over, packing my bags….we were on the way. This labor was just like the ones you see in the movies, my other 3 were nothing like this. While driving down Rt. 4 (which by the way, 3 am is the perfect time, no traffic at all), I asked Shawn, what would happen if we went to the hospital I wanted to go to. He said, nothing, a house doctor would deliver. So with that, I said, turn here…and we went to the hospital I wanted to go to. And as it turns out, the house Dr. on call that night was one from my practice, he was moonlighting. So needless to say, I was thrilled about our last minute decision.

A few hours later, the first Christmas baby of the hospital was born, our little girl. Later that day when the boys came to visit, they called her Sydney Claus…lol. A nickname that comes back every holiday season. Because she was a preemie, her lungs were not fully developed and she was jaundiced so she had to spend a week in NICU. It was very emotional but thankfully we knew that she was never in any real danger. On New Years we were able to bring our little 6 lb. bundle home. Our family was truly complete.

In the O/R, right after she was born by c/s

Her first week of life was a little bumpy, and that first winter we had to be very cautious because she was a preemie but once we cleared that, the rest is history….four years later and she is a happy, loving, little girl. She is our pride and joy and we couldn’t love her anymore. Happy birthday Sydney!

I took this pic 2 weeks ago, when we were playing around and she asked me to take her pic. I plan to do her “official” 4 year old shoot when the boys return to school. Stayed tuned for my next post which will include traditions, presents and fun!

{cookies}

I baked so much last week, I can’t believe I still had it in me to do some baking with the kids on Sunday…lol, but I did. It was cold and snowy and turning the oven on and baking and decorating cookies seemed to be the perfect afternoon activity. We made Hanukkah cookies to have later that night for dessert since it was the first night.

(just playing around with some actions…lol)

Not as fancy as Christmas cookies but we still had fun…we used glaze and butter cream frosting along with blue sprinkles, snowflake quins, Jewish star quins, choc. chips, shredded coconut and blue sugar and blue writing icing. The sugar cookies were a hit and the kids ended up eating some as they were decorating…lol, but here are the ones that made it til the night!
