Christmas is a very special day for many of you, one that means family, traditions, presents and fun and I’ve enjoyed sharing all of it with you. Even though we don’t celebrate Christmas, Christmas is a very special day in our house too. A day that also means family, traditions, presents and fun.
Four years ago, early Christmas morning, while sleeping, my water broke… while I should’ve been excited I panicked at the idea of having a baby on Christmas, after all my due date was another 4 weeks away and my scheduled c/s was 2 1/2 weeks away. I called the Dr’s office to learn that my doctor was in FL, of course he was, he was Jewish, and don’t all Jews go to FL for Christmas…lol. The answering service told me a covering Dr. (not from my office) was on call at one of the area hospitals and I should go there. I hung up in tears…my baby was early, my doctor was away, the covering doctor is a doctor that I had heard not so good things about, and to top it off, he was at a hospital that I didn’t want to deliver at. What was I to do? I wasn’t having contractions so I thought, maybe Shawn was right and maybe I just peed…lol and I’ll go back to bed. Yeah right…, by 2:30 am, the contractions were there and there was no denying I was in labor. So after calling my parents to come over, packing my bags….we were on the way. This labor was just like the ones you see in the movies, my other 3 were nothing like this. While driving down Rt. 4 (which by the way, 3 am is the perfect time, no traffic at all), I asked Shawn, what would happen if we went to the hospital I wanted to go to. He said, nothing, a house doctor would deliver. So with that, I said, turn here…and we went to the hospital I wanted to go to. And as it turns out, the house Dr. on call that night was one from my practice, he was moonlighting. So needless to say, I was thrilled about our last minute decision.
A few hours later, the first Christmas baby of the hospital was born, our little girl. Later that day when the boys came to visit, they called her Sydney Claus…lol. A nickname that comes back every holiday season. Because she was a preemie, her lungs were not fully developed and she was jaundiced so she had to spend a week in NICU. It was very emotional but thankfully we knew that she was never in any real danger. On New Years we were able to bring our little 6 lb. bundle home. Our family was truly complete.

In the O/R, right after she was born by c/s
Her first week of life was a little bumpy, and that first winter we had to be very cautious because she was a preemie but once we cleared that, the rest is history….four years later and she is a happy, loving, little girl. She is our pride and joy and we couldn’t love her anymore. Happy birthday Sydney!

I took this pic 2 weeks ago, when we were playing around and she asked me to take her pic. I plan to do her “official” 4 year old shoot when the boys return to school. Stayed tuned for my next post which will include traditions, presents and fun!
