Did you know…

Until this past summer when I read an article in the newspaper, I had no idea that WI was the founding place of the ice cream sundae.  Well today we decided to take a little road trip to the founding ice cream parlor.  It’s a little over an hour from my house which isn’t bad…but as an added bonus my friend, and the ever so talented Nicole lives there, and we were able to spend the afternoon together.

{Kate Jacobs}

Last night I had the honor of meeting Kate Jacobs, author of the NY Times bestseller The Friday Night Knitting Club. I read this book in the spring and really enjoyed it and was surprised to learn yesterday afternoon that a sequel came out last month, I had no idea.   When I was reading my bookstore email newsletter and found out that Kate was going to be at my local store that night, I just had to go.

Going to book readings and author events is not something I normally do but I am so glad I went.  It was fun learning more about Kate; she is really funny and very down to earth.  I also enjoyed learning more about characters.

I own all 3 of  Kate’s books (bought the newest one last night) and was excited to learn that 2 more are in the works.  If you like a good girlfriend book I highly suggest The Friday Night Knitting ClubComfort food is independent of that book but so far (I am not far in) seems to be equally as good.  I can not wait to start reading Knit Two.

My deal of the day on Black Friday was this slow cooker.  Between sales, coupons and employee discount this baby came out to $4.99!!!!  A bargain for sure.  Funny that I was wanting one for a while and was so excited when I got this one for such a deal that it is still sitting in the box!!! HA.  Now that I moved the box and it’s on my counter, I think I’ll open it!  I have heard such great things about using a slow cookers, I guess I’ll find out soon enough if I like mine.

Just wondering how many of you have a slow cooker, and use it?  And what your favorite recipes are?

{Slush Happens}

For all my friends from Texas to the northeast who were/are getting hammered by this crazy storm, I hope you all remain safe and with power. Fortunately, this storm was south of us but believe me when I tell you I can relate to what you are going through.

I thought you would all appreciate this mug. When I saw it last month I just had to have it. It reminds me that warm, sunny days are ahead… slush happens!

{Chillin’}

or should I say “warmin’?! After running errands in this ridiculously cold weather, we stopped at the local coffee place for some nice warm drinks! It was toasty. But what really made this pic for me is the fact that Max picked up the paper to read the comics. While you may think this is no big deal…just a short time ago we couldn’t do anything to get him to read…and now he loves to read.

{Snow buddies}

Not sure why they want to, but when they came home from school they asked if they play outside… it was a toasty 10 degrees…. yeah..nice! But, they bundled up and played out for a little bit.

To take this shot, I stood in the garage, had them look at me, click….and then I was back in the house in a flash. It’s just to F’ing cold for me. And if one more person says either, these are the coldest winters we’ve had in a long time or the summer is nice, they better watch out because I think I may just hit them (hard).
