90/365 {Prince}

Matthew was part of the ensemble in Beauty and the Beast.  This play was the perfect play not to have lead role because as part of the ensemble he had many parts, I think he was in 8 of the 13 scenes.

For starters, he was the prince in the opening scene…

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle. Although he had everything his heart desired,

      the prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind. But then, one winter's night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and
       offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold. Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the prince sneered at
       the gift and turned the old woman away, but she warned him not to be deceived by appearances, for beauty is found within.
       And when he dismissed her again, the old woman's ugliness melted away to reveal a beautiful enchantress. The prince
       tried to apologize, but it was too late, for she had seen that there was no love in his heart, and as punishment, she
       transformed him into a hideous beast, and placed a powerful spell on the castle, and all who lived there.

88/365 {meow, carnival part 2}

Carnival was quite successful for my family.   Fortunately, the cake walk wasn’t as popular with my kids this year; we only came home with 2 cakes which is fine by me.  Of course, getting your face painted adds to the fun.  But this year what made it even better is that Matthew won a raffle item.  I gave each kid $5 worth of tickets for the raffle items.  Syd put hers into an American Girl basket and an iTouch basket.  Andrew put his in the iTouch basket since he doesn’t have one yet, not sure where Max put his and Matthew….he split his up and HE WON!!!!  He didn’t want to put all his tickets in one place (not sure why) so he put half in something and put the rest in one of the iTouch baskets since he knew Andrew and Syd don’t have them yet…well Syd uses mine (all the time) but she still wants one… ha ha…  Guess what.. Matthew WON AN iTOUCH… how cool is that???!!!!!!  He had friends offering to buy it for $100 but he declined.  He gave it to Andrew since he didn’t have one and Syd uses mine.  Since Andrew appreciated his kind gesture, he gave him $50 as a thank you…lol.  Done Deal… Everyone is happy.  I am proud of Matthew for giving it to his brother when he could have sold it for more money to a friend or even returned it to best buy since it came with a gift receipt.

87/365 {carnival}

Let’s rewind back to early March… what started this crazy whirlwind of mine… carnival.  It’s our school’s largest fundraiser and it always in mid-March.  Aside from the fun carnival games, the donated raffle and silent auction items is a class room project which also gets auctioned off.  Last year, my friend and I who were in charge of our class carnival project tried something a little different, and it seemed to work out really well so this year I did something similar.

Instead of one project where only one person walks away with it, I did individual projects.  These projects were pre-sold so I knew just who was going to participate.  Normally the classroom projects end up selling for $80-120 .  If everyone in a class does a small project and the profit is $10, you can easily donate $200 which is way more than the other way (we donated close to $250).  So that said, everyday for a weeks along with some weekend time our projects came to life.

This years carnival theme was Wizard of Oz, so with that we decide to make t-shirts that the kids would be able to wear to the carnival.  We had a contest within the class for the design of the shirt, then they voted for their favorite 3.  Then the fun (and time consuming part).  Every day during lunch recess for a couple of weeks I had groups of kids come in and paint.  We used this relatively new product from England called Paint Me.  These paints are incredible…very vibrant and they are heat pressed into you shirt so it’s not hard and crackly like typical fabric paint.  You paint your design on paper first with the special paints and then it’s heat pressed onto a shirt (has to be their shirt).  A friend of mine is using this product in her business so she had the press….

Bringing this project to life was time consuming but the kids had so much fun that it was worth it.  That and the fact that we raised good money.

The finished products…the logo on the bottom was on everyones shirts…
